Alsford Timber and Builder's Merchant Supports Staff Wellbeing with Reduced Saturday Hours

Alsford Timber and Builder’s Merchant, a trusted regional independent with over 140 years of heritage, is proud to announce a positive contribution to the work-life balance for its employees. From February 1, 2025, the company will be reducing its Saturday opening hours to 8:00am – 12:00 noon at all locations. This decision is a notable part of Alsford's commitment to employee wellbeing and is aligned with the company’s ongoing work to attain the National Standard of Workplace Wellbeing Accreditation.

As a working merchant, Alsford understands the challenge of finding the right balance between providing top-tier service to its customers and ensuring the wellbeing of its dedicated teams. Reflecting on feedback from its staff during the accreditation process, Alsford has made the decision to reduce Saturday hours in order to give team members more time to recharge, contributing to a healthier, happier work environment.

“We take great pride in our history of serving customers across the South East, alongside showing our commitment to improving the wellbeing of our teams,” said Louise Williams, Commercial Director at Alsford Timber and Builder’s Merchant. “Working towards the National Standard of Workplace Wellbeing Accreditation is not just a one-off tick box, it is an ongoing journey and commitment to show that our people are at the heart of our business. By making small but meaningful changes, like our adjusted Saturday hours, we are supporting our team whilst ensuring we continue to provide the service our customers can rely on.”

This change is just one of the steps Alsford is taking as part of its broader wellbeing strategy, which includes ongoing initiatives to promote health, happiness, and work-life balance for all employees. The company is confident that this move will help foster a supportive and sustainable work environment whilst continuing to meet the needs of its loyal customers.
